Hi, I’m Sally
Thanks for visiting! Welcome to Fit Fab Fiftyish where you’ll find tips and inspiration to live an active and joyful midlife.
Fit Fab Fiftyish promises no-nonsense ways to move and be mindful – in ways that are right for your body. Ways that nourish rather than punish!
Fitness was never my thing. Growing up I wasn’t good at sport and I wasn’t motivated to try. Preferring reading, writing and daydreaming, I was happy to sit on the sidelines.
The years of raising a family, working and studying went by without my attitude to fitness and health changing. By my 40s I was doing no exercise at all and my lifestyle habits raised all the red flags. They were fun times, but they had to come to an end!
Just before turning 50 I walked into a gym for the first time in my life. I had no idea what I was doing, but I knew my habits and attitude needed to change.
Five-ish years later I now prioritise movement and mindfulness. I can run 10 kilometres without stopping, I exercise and practice yoga regularly, and I’ve replaced my once-dubious lifestyle habits with far healthier ones. I’ve worked hard and learned so much along the way. Most importantly, I’ve never felt better!
Dare I say it because I know how cringey this might sound and I try not to take myself too seriously… my journey to a fitter and healthier lifestyle is constantly evolving.
I started Fit Fab Fiftyish to share what works for me, and to inspire you. But I want to do more than just write about it.
My dream is to design and facilitate exercise and yoga classes tailored for women in midlife and beyond.
I want to offer low impact, evidence-based ways to move your body and mind so you not only thrive in midlife, but also protect yourself against chronic disease as you age.
A dream is only a dream until it’s also an action plan, right? To make my dream a reality I’m studying to become a registered exercise professional (AusREP) as well as an accredited yoga teacher (200hrs).
I can’t wait to see where the journey takes me.
Fit, fabulous and fifty-ish
Midlife is a time when we can really bloom. Years of experience and acquired wisdom has given us strength and confidence to know who we are and what we want from life.
Midlife can also be a busy and challenging time. Maybe you are still raising children, or struggling to adapt to an empty nest? You or your partner might be facing health challenges. You may be a carer for a family member. Chances are you’ve also faced loss and grief along the way, and then there’s perimenopause and menopause to contend with…
Let’s not sugar-coat it, at times it can suck!
Here’s the good news. With new-found confidence and perspective we can deal with whatever midlife dishes up. Furthermore, it’s possible to be the fittest, healthiest and happiest you’ve been in ages.
I’m so glad you’ve joined me as we find ways to be fabulous women living a midlife we love.
